testing parachutes with cheat menu

hi, why every time that I test the landing descending speed of a ship using the "cheat menu - set position", I always notice a lower speed than when I travel to the planet and open parachutes as normal?

When you use the cheat menu to "set" something, the program tries really really hard to properly initialize everything exactly the way it should be if you traveled there. But the devs make no guarantees about that at all. In fact, they would tell you not to trust anything you've seen after you "cheat" something -- which is obviously going too far because it mostly does work, but that's what they'd say.

in this specific case I was testing how many parachutes I had to attach in order to get a soft landing on duna, but using the "cheat menu - set position" in flight near the duna surface.

edit: the problem is that I've forgot to add fuel after adding 6 parachutes and now I don't have enough to return home, fortunately there is Ike, hoping it helps me with its gravity assist
