Windowed Full-screen option

Recommended Posts

I have two screens, and when I'm playing KSP on one and doing other stuff on the other, I keep on running into a problem in fullscreen. KSP just blanks out and I go to the desktop behind it, as per usual.

However, a windowed fullscreen mode (fullscreen without bar on top) would fix this issue. I think that this would be needed so I can get a proper ratio to upload videos from and also be productive.

What do you guys think?

Harvester posted about this Unity feature some time ago:

-popupwindow (runs the game in borderless mode. Windows only)

Assuming you are using Windows, copy your KSP shortcut (just to be safe), then right-click and change the properties to something like

"X:\Path\to\KSP.exe -popupwindow"

(where X: etc. are the values already in there). I'm not on Windows, so edit at your own discretion.

In the Graphics section of the KSP settings, change the resolution to your desktop's resolution, uncheck "Fullscreen", and you should be good to go.

I can confirm it working with Linux/Wine, no idea about MacOS though.

Thanks for the tip, works perfectly [so far].

I don't get though, if this is so easy to do, why is it not in the Core Game? Every game I've played has this option.

Possibly because of

-popupwindow (runs the game in borderless mode. Windows only)

Maybe it isn't just that simple from within a running instance of Unity, or maybe it isn't that simple on Linux and MacOS. Or maybe it's just not high enough on the priority list.

And especially if it is that simple, why put time and effort in it when users can simply type in a few letters and fix it for themselves, let Squad squash a bug or add a more interesting feature instead.

You can play the game fullscreen on the second monitor with "-adapter 1" (0 = primary, 1 = secondary screen) but than you cannot move your cursor to the first screen. Didn't work in combination with the -popupwindow command, and Squad doesn't save windows position in the register.. so only thing to do is create a script of some kind to move it after starting the application :(
