Drilling Ore

Recommended Posts

Looking at the photo I cannot definitively confirm that the spacecraft is sitting fully on the ground, although it probably is.  On the other hand, I see that your drills are attached quite low on the base of the spacecraft.  They are the Jr drills, I see.

Try it on the KSC launchpad (deploy & drill!!) and see if you get the same problem because, if you do, it's a lot easier to test there than on Minmus.  I would then try raising the position of the drills on the ship (i.e. attach them at a higher position).

What I suspect are problems when the extension of the drills might be raising the ship itself off the ground.  This would explain the ship jiggling around (movement).  It can also summon the Kraken when you switch back to the vessel while the drills are operating.  It might not be why you're not getting ore, but it might be too.

In any case, I do recommend testing operation at KSC as much as you can.

OK Guys! This is resolved

The key is the "landing legs". Looks like the game only use the leg contact to determine whether you have drill head ground contact (Although this is not for all cases. I do have some other ships without legs but the drilling works). I believe this is a bug

I already have 3 diff planets using this "legged" ship and all are working well now

I believe not only legs but also apply to landing gears

Thanks all for all the comments anyway

Yes, i tried the option in the comm pod and from the top UI, but it is not working

i believe it only works if your ship got landing legs or gears

Hmmm i did some testing and...it doesn't work really well with the engines, it works with every part but not everytime when only the engines touch the ground....I missed that...sorry m8...good find though,

i will post in the mod thread in case its an easy addition/fix.

It works with all parts but when only the engines touch the ground...sometimes it doesnt really work, other times it works fine.

You might be on something, like when vessels land only with their engines, might be a bug hidden somewhere there.

You can see from the screenshot, even not all legs touched the ground, no issue on drilling

So the leg is the key, not the status "landed"

You can sit on anything (girders, wings, pods, converters, tanks, pistons, wheels...) and the drills will works.. Your last screenshot made clear to me that your craft was sitting on the only exception:

Yep!  Drills don't work if the craft sits on the drills itself.
