SAS when splashed on eve

Recommended Posts

hi, I just would like to have the same or similar "probe SAS control", i.e. to be capable of turn the probe upside down, or at least to get back upright,
as you can see when I'm landed on kerbin,
here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ovcsqdkdkn9uuhe/sas landed.mkv?dl=0
even when I'm splashed on eve, where I can't do it.

It seems that when I'm splashed on eve, the reactions wheels have not the same torque as when I'm landed or splashed on kerbin.
here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2c88w3tdt70w65u/sas splashed on k.mkv?dl=0

it just depends cause of the higher eve surface gravity?
what can I do? to add more wheels? I though 2 was enough but they do not, so I've already added 2 more, but is the same,
and the lander is already high enough, it's starting to look ugly.

another thing: what about the difference between kerbin and eve seas?
please look at the waterlines difference:
it looks like the eve ocean is denser than the kerbin ocean, is it?

here's the probe COM:

Eve has higher gravity and a denser sea. You need to redesign your craft. Rearrange your parts so the CoM is as low as possible, if it's heavy up top it'll take a lot of torque to flip it.

ok thanks, I'll try it.

edit: I've tried this version unsuccessfully.
it seems this is even worst.
I think the main obstacle is the Eve ocean and only bit the gravity.
any tips?

What’s in those service bays?

Just light things, SC-9001 and science stuffs.

The 2 versions COM are almost the same, in facts the the heaviest part in this probe is the heat shield.

I tried this and it's definitely the center of mass. You need a lot of torque to beat the gravity on Eve. Your craft would need to be much, much shorter than that, so you need pretty much a complete redesign.

indeed you're right.. I tried several configurations, then I decided to decouple 2 of the 3 SC-9001 when fly low before open the parachute.
but this version needs a larger anti aesthetic fairing.
I just built this one below that works, it works so well that I'm gonna try to refine it, removing some wheels.

damn it, I think with the previous versions I forgot to drain the upper monopropellant tank.
it really matters, look: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ucvcga69rstgajm/2020-11-08 19-17-15.mkv?dl=0

I continue the improvement.

Final version:

I did not believe that moving "little weight parts" downward would have produced such big changes.
it's something about levers, where the distance from the fulcrum multiplies the weight. or something like that.
