Finally, I can join the ranks of KSP pilots. Mission Accomplished.

Salutations!

I've been playing KSP on and off for the last couple of weeks, but only now having successfully reached (and returned alive from) orbit do I feel justified in admitting myself to the KSP community forum.

My rockets were always falling tragically short of orbit, until one of my friends taught me a simple rule of thumb:

"However large you think you should make your rockets, double it."

I'd like to dedicate this post to the dozens of Kerbals who died to make it possible.

Cirius.

Welcome to the forums :D

I felt a similar sense of not allowing myself to join the forums until I had achieved a certain task. For me this was successfully landing on the Mun, needless to say it was a while before I signed up :)

Happy Engineering!

Hi Cirius, welcome to the community :)

I prefer smaller, more efficient rockets myself, you can greatly improve your efficiency if you are careful with the throttle on the ascent, as the air resistance can cause you to burn a lot more fuel than you really need.

I didn't give myself a rule, but by the time i signed up (very recently) i had landed on Ike in career mode.

Congratulations Cirius! It will be no time at all before you are designing your SECOND attempt to land on the Mun. Which of course will be a rescue mission, attempting to retrieve the kerbalnaut you stranded on the Mun in your first attempt.

I still remember my first return to Kerkin from orbit. As the heat kept going up and up, I was nervous, the Kerbals were nervous, but than things started to cool off and I deployed the chute the second the light turned green,
