Best place for a Jool orbital refueling station?

Recommended Posts

Hey all. So I want to look at setting up a refueling station somewhere in the Jool system. My first thought was in orbit around Laythe. The reason being I have had some landers able to get off Laythe, but not have much fuel left when they enter orbit, and a station could help that. Also, Laythe encounters are ridiculously easy. It is quite far from the outer moons though, so maybe not ideal? Also, resupplying the station wouldn’t be super easy. An orbital Pol or Bop station would be easy to resupply, but far from the inner moons. I guess the other possibility is to have the station in a Jool orbit, which I never really strongly considered, but maybe there is a good reason to do that which I haven’t thought of?

Thoughts on where it might be best?

In my opinion, orbital refuelling stations are awful. I’ve previously built a miner/fuel depot on Pol instead as fairly cheap to land and take off from their and saves the monotony of transporting fuel all the time.

I don't know if there is a best(TM) place for a refueling station in the Joolian system. I guess it depends on what you want to do.

I placed my big station in an orbit around Jool between Laythe and Vall, so that I can easily refuel from Vall and don't have it far to Laythe. But I also have a Laythe ground station on the way that will supply the air-breathing operations on Laythe, once they arrive.
