KSP 1.12 | The Final Approach

@seyMonsters see the apo/periapsis thing in the bottom left of the screen? To the right of the word “orbit” is an arrow- click that and it opens the maneuver (manoeuvre ) widget where you can choose to edit the nodes by typing the numbers in, or open the other tab to get a precise node editor which includes orbit shifting. It’s a great little tool and can open the nodes when the UI misbehaves like that, but you can only access it in map view.

Spoiler

Sticking a pod onto a rocket that's a smaller diameter? You'd never catch me doing that...

Yes I’m aware of that type bit, what I didn’t realise ( and had a comment on the video about) was that if the node isn’t active for editing, you can use the arrows to ‘activate it’ for editing…. Very useful to remember! Particularly with the node UI seeming to be less clickable in this version lol

Is it just me, or is the colour contrast turned up a little bit too much?

There’s a reason I always take the pods down with me when I do those rescue contracts, no need to check if I’ve already rescued them when the pod comes back too- plus free money!

I would have collected the pod but no grabber currently :-(

You could have unlocked it, but you picked the wrong nodes :P

Also the whole "F to grab on" thing is because F is the "interact" keybind, does grab, climb and randomly-smack-the-deployed-science-stuff actions. G is for Gear.

What’s with the parachutes “when risky” all the time? They’re more likely to fail if you do that, just setting them up right is usually enough. I tend to use 0.5atm deploy, 750-1000m full open and only rarely have to bump the deploy pressure down if the craft is heading for a mountain.

Just the way Iv found it best for my approaches ;-)

Loads of contracts that would suit a crewed Mun landing…

”Let’s go to Duna, or fly around Kerbin in a plane.”

Yes I need to collect some rocks... but I also want to get out their and visit other planets...… I guess I'm like a kid in a candy shop... I want it all and I want it now..

I don’t often shout at the screen when watching a video, but this…

Just point at the thing and fire! Stop trying to tickle the satellite and just GRAB IT! Or just kill your relative velocity beside it and forget about grabbing it altogether.

And those cargo containers were unnecessary, the Mk2 pod has its own cargo storage with more than enough room to fit that antenna. You also left the satellite in place and didn’t even use the free gravity gravioli detector, or steal it for bonus funds; I’d have stripped that thing down for parts as soon as the contract completed.

Yes I think I need to not just be happy with the basic mission… note to self… hot it hard and take everything !

Click the orbit line, not the body itself and it’ll move the camera.

For antenna occlusion you need to set the occlusion multipliers in the difficulty settings- vacuum and atmospheric bodies have different values so you can pretend to have signal refraction through the upper atmosphere or alternatively just have the atmosphere block the signal.

Get an engineer out and rip those struts off, it should be fine after that. Probably. I would have put all the panels on the top or bottom side of the trusses and pointed the station directly towards or away from the sun, saving parts by not bringing solar panels that’ll rarely get the sun.

Also-

You: remember batteries.

Also you: immediately forgets batteries…

Watching you try to fill up those tiny cargo containers when there’s a whopping great 2.5m cylinder with massive capacity right there… You could get so many batteries in that thing.

You’re also sending the data using one of the HG-5 dishes which isn’t set to allow partial (there are four of them!), set them ALL to allow partial and it’ll send that science back.
