should there be a space based economy?

per example, imagine trade routes in multiplayer, building new permanent structures to facilitate shorter thus more efficient routes like a train, rocket base or airport etc, even in single player it would be even easier.

players could exchange on a marketplace and get resources delivered by automated ships, others could fight for territory with space jets or space bombardment system, that way we could have actual wills in servers, it'd be amazing if said servers could rotate each 6 months to break up monopolies and create new things etcmaxresdefault.jpg

I'd like a single player economy more so simulating companies with direct interest in space giving us reasons to send satellites into orbit and make cash out of it similar to how things function in our world. I don't think multiplayer will be vast enough to merit the kind of system I think is being alluded to in the OP and I don't understand how "territory" would be even established. If someone wants materials, just send out the materials... if there are some to spare. I don't see player count going much higher than shallow double digits per server. That's a lot of physics bubbles and simulations to keep track of.

I don't think KSP should turn into an economics simulation.  If you want to trade there are lots and lots of different games out there (X-Series, Elite, Star Citizen, Eve Online) that would do a better job than KSP.

KSP should be about building rockets and then using them to explore new worlds in a "realistic" way.  Space trade beyond simple supply logistics (get X tons of "supplies" from Kerbin to Base Y) would only complicate stuff and bind resources better spend elsewhere.
