CKAN advice for save breaking update

I'm making an update to my mod that will likely break old saves and also has dependencies that conflict with the old version.  This will be for 1.12 only so the old version should stick around in case folks want to use earlier KSP versions.  What is the best approach for adding it to CKAN?  As an update with new metadata or as a 'new' mod with the old one frozen at the last maintenance version?
