Numbers near delta-V bar

I have recently noticed some white single digit numbers between the Navball and the delta-V bar.  Usually there are one or two ranging from 0 to 4.  Their placement along the arc of the delta-V bar varies.  No doubt they contain VALUABLE INFORMATION.  What are they?

They are the numbers for the stage you are going to use. For example, you could have a 2 in the middle, and that would mean you would use the second stage.
