Dv in ksp

Hi, i am just wondering about dv in this game. When i am building my rocket and i look at the dv, does it only acount for kerbins athmosphere? Is it any way to change it or to see what the dv may look in space?

If you click on the button that has the dv symbol in the toolbar, you should see different atmospheres + vacuum options come up.
