Thoughts on how Dres got its Dres-teroid Belt?

Although Dres isn't that particularly interesting, one thing has always interested me about it: there's an unquantifiable amount of natural satellites orbiting Dres in a ring-like formation. I'm curious as to how Dres got this ring and I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.

Dres had a moon in that orbit, then something *cough DART cough* crashed into said moon and shattered it. The surviving objects eventually formed a ring.

Boom boom. Or maybe Dres once had a so so strong gravitational force that one day, when an enormous asteroid encountered it and went so close to it, the pressure was so high that it shattered into small asteroidlings. But as time passed on, Dres' gravity got weaker and weaker. (How, you might ask? Magic)
