KSP EVA Problem with RSS

I've been playing for years so I know how eva jetpacks are supposed to operate. I just started a career with the Real Solar System mods, without the LRTR mod.

I am struggling to obtain enough science as it is, and I finally got up a ship in orbit that could rescue some kerbals... only to find that the kerbal can't use his jetpack to get to my ship. Pressing R (which I checked settings and that is correct) does nothing. I thought maybe he was out of fuel so I pulled Jebediah out of the ship to go meet him... and Jebediah just floats there as well. So now my ship is worthless because I can't put its pilot back in, let alone rescue Giling. 

Struggling to save this career now. Is this a bug or something fixable...? Please help.

Check what propellant the EVA jetpacks are using and if they actually have any in them.

I don't have Reaslism Overhaul on, so fuel is less of a concern. It doesn't seem to need any fuel. No fuel is listed in his inventory, empty or otherwise, even though he has a jetpack on his back. He just won't start using it.

Can you post a screenshot of an EVA Kerbal with the resource bar open in the top right, and also one of the EVA jetpack in the VAB/SPH editor with the information tab open to show what propellant it uses? RO isn’t the only mod that changes what the EVA jetpack uses as fuel so it might be some other mod you’re using.

A full mod list and logs may also help, use this guide:

Also, I tried in Sandbox mode and when I went EVA I noticed that the small dialogue above the navall said "warning, there is no nitrogen in the EVA, don't let go of the ladder... 

That said, I don't know how to put nitrogen in the tank.

Go into the Kerbalism files and disable the patch that makes the EVA jetpack use nitrogen (delete it).

Sorry, I've been trying, but I can't figure out which file that is. Is that something I can do in CKAN or do I need to go through the hard drive?

Are you using a part balancing mod like SMURFF or RO? Please post your logs and also the ModuleManager.ConfigCache file inside GameData as they'll show exactly what was changed.

I've had a similar problem like this, you may want to uninstall "through the eyes of a kerbal" if you have it, it caused a lot of eva problems for me.
