How to connect parts on different sides?

Recommended Posts

I'm...not sure what you are getting at here?  Your title indicates you want to connect the same part on 2 different sides of another object, but that second screenshot looks like you are having a problem with the craft staying together.  To address both:

  • If you want to put the same part on multiple sides of another part, hit X.  You will see the UI in the lower left hand corner change to show 2, 4, 6, or 8 different parts to be placed.
  • If you are worried about the craft staying together, you'll need to use struts.  You can either go under the Structural tab in the VAB and add them that way, or you can enable Advanced Tweakables and then in the part-action window you can autostrut.

Please let us know with more detail what it is you are trying to do and what happens and what you need help with.

There have been some kind of update to be able to do it or are we talking about different things?

I don't know, because I still don't understand the depth of your question.  What exactly are you trying to do, and what is the end result?

I think OP is running up against the "tree" nature of craft structure from root part on down to the end bits where each part only has one connection path back to the root part.  Something like the Recoupler mod, if it still exists in working form might do something like you want, but be aware that the entire game engine is geared around a simpler craft part "hierarchy" for performance reasons, and other than struts, having multiple paths back to the root part can cause k instabilities in the physics engine that works at the part level.

I ran up against this also early on when first getting into KSP and wanting to make multipart mechanical linkages (think something like Falcon 9 landing legs with the hydraulic and hinge working together to control the geometry).  I did not get far

Found out that this is impossible, sry for unnecessary post

It's not completely impossible.

There's a mod for that, but of course that requires you to be on PC instead of console.  It's called ReCoupler, and in despite of the thread title saying v1.9, the SpaceDock version is rated for the current KSP version.

There is also a way to accomplish what you want in stock:  connect your flailing pieces together with docking ports.  You absolutely can have a vessel dock to itself.  You'll need to decide for yourself, though, whether that fits with the aesthetic that you want to achieve.
