Well the main reason is that helicopters are damn hard to make.

If you actually look up how the primary blades on a helicopter work you will see that not only do they spin, they also rotate in order to change their angle of attack.
See the 2nd diagram in the link below, and try building that in KSP lol. Not really possible.

Just read that article and I find it odd that they mention the Chinook when talking about transverse rotors, beside an animation that's clearly based on the Osprey, when the diagram for tandem rotors is a Chinook!

It would probably be possible to build a proper helicopter rotor mechanism in KSP, purely as a demonstration of how it works, but not one that was actually flyable as it would be too big and unwieldy plus it would tear itself apart if spun up to the required RPM for flight.
