Docking ports - Cannot undock

I made a spaceship with a lander attached using a pair of medium docking ports. Tried to undock while in orbit around Mun.

1st time, the undocked lander immediately smashed into the rest of the spaceship, destroying it. It was like the lander didn't inherit the orbital velocity of the spaceship.

2nd time, the camera just started flying away from the spaceship (with lander still docked to it), it was like the camera was pointing at a fixed, unmoving point, while the spaceship continues on its trajectory.

I managed to switch back to the spaceship (with its still docked lander), the option to undock the docking ports is no longer there for either docking port.

If you use struts, it's possible the struts didn't released when you undocked (don't know the circumstances precisely, though). Matt Lowne had the same issue you described in his last video

No struts between the lander and spaceship. Will try with simpler craft and see what situation causes it though.

I also had this issue -- I encapsulated the lander inside a fairing on the nose of the vehicle (command pod -> separator -> fairing -> coupler -> coupler -> lander).  Could not get them to undock once in low orbit of the mun.  Had the lander's engine on the last stage of the main vehicle and had not been activated at time of attempting to undock.  I built the lander in place in the VAB.

Ah, my lander was inside a cargo bay, might be something to do with it.

Same thing, mates. No struts. The second patch and it is not fixed.

It's now July.. and nothing has changed!

I tell a lie...

After a lot of faffing about in the VAB with attachment nodes, cargo bay nodes, and part attachment sequence, I managed to get the option to undock my lander's docking port.

Now to see if I can still remember how to do a manual Mun-landing!
