[Suggestion] : Repair / add / modify parts to an existing ship

Recommended Posts

Hello to all of you,

I'm Vin's#2228 from the official discord, I was wondering if a feature would be available in the future, so I asked @Dakota on the KSP 2 general who kindly asked me to post it here :
(Thanks for your time and response).

@CM Dakota Excuse me please,

Do you think we will be able to repair / add / modify parts to an existing ship without having to recreate a "new" or "copy" one when the colonies or the possibility to create ships in orbit will be there? It would be incredible to have a kind of V.A.B just to "modify", Imagine landing on a planet, breaking an element, reaching the station / colony and being able to repair it manually by adding new parts!

Imagine designing a vehicle and managing to keep it without destroying it throughout your scientific progress and your game, improving it, enlarging it, changing the old parts to put more efficient ones!

It would be just incredible! Do you think we will have this kind of functionality?

Why such a feature? :

To keep statistics, to save resources/money or simply to improve and keep your favorite ship.

Imagine an old abandoned station from a previous mission, you have resources inside with a way to repair or modify the ship, but no fuel available in it.

You've damaged your shuttle or ship on the re-entry of the planet where the old station is orbiting, but you've managed to get back to that station despite the damage, you still have enough fuel to reach a moon where a more advanced, newer, still active station or colony to resupply and continue the current mission, but you need to repair parts such as solar panels or wings to reach that destination safely.

That's the whole point of repair / add / modify parts inside a editor like VAB to an existing ship without having to recreate a "new" or "copy" of it, not just recharging a ship or rebuilding it from scratch. That would be really great.
