Hit by Fake Austrian Police Ukash Trojan! HELP!

Recommended Posts

I am currently in Austria, and i got infected by a fake Austrian police trojan.

I cannot launch my PC from normal mode.

They say that i have to pay 100 Euro to unlock my computer because of a law violation.

- Why this is FAKE?

Because it shows the MCAffee logo.

Because it's using Ukash. I don't think Ukash is a Police Organization.

Because if i would use my computer for downloading pirateware, seeing children being for example, being tortured with acid or like this, i would already sit in Prison.

Because when i google, it shows even a warning FROM THE POLICE AGAINST the virus.

A Friend of my parents is coming, my mum says that he can fix this.

But i think he will not have to reinstall windows. (I hope so)

--------------

If you can help me, post your ideas!!!

Thank you very much!

This is ransomware, a new approach from maclicous, horrible people. I can give you a website here or here to help.

You don't have to reinstall Windows, just use the websites.

Also, pretending you have actually done something makes you want to pay it, they try and make you feel guilty.

Hope this helps, also try getting a good free antivirus to stop these things getting on your PC (I learnt that the hard way...)

Why, Microsoft? Why did you remove the 'Start up in Safe Mode' option as standard?

EDIT: Oh. Ok, you're using it already.

Also, if the police were monitoring your computer for that sort of thing, you could expect a police officer to come round and ask you to take a visit to the local station. Not 'you are a bad person, pay E100.'

Thank you!

The worst thing of Windows Safe Mode is that i can't play KSP!

And is this only fake or can the police do this legally?

About that, I'm pretty sure they cant but since I don't live in Austria and don't know their laws, I have no idea but if they ask you to pay a fine like this one, it's most probably fake.

I don't think that the police would single YOU out of the other people that actually do do some of the things that the ransomware said you did.

Also Safe Mode is to help you get your PC back to normal by following the website's advice.

Also, I'm happy to help people against the mean people of the world.

Just a question I need to know, does the ransomware still appear in Safe Mode or is it not loaded into the system?

I can help you better if you tell me.

Remember to use Safe Mode with Networking if the ransomware takes no effect on anything in Safe Mode and then you can download something to remove it.

By the way OP stuff like this is happening it is a way of getting you to pay up but it is cybercrime someone in the US was doing a similar thing making it out that people's anti-virus isn't working and making people pay.

Also do not trust McAffee for anti-virus they let some harmful things through. My friends family used this program extensively and they ended up having to pay out a lot of money undoing the damage it caused. Think about something like AVG and Kaspersky. Also installing Spybot - search and destroy will increase security basically it detects things that your anti-virus cannot detect and remove it completely.

The police wouldn't use something like this, as mentioned you would either get a police officer come round or if it was just a fine it would come through the mail.

Also, any legitimate police thing is going to tell you which law you violated, so you could go and look it up.

Well, assuming you live in a country where rule of law matters and police arent horribly corrupt. (I know this doesn't apply to Austria, just saying.)

Once you get out of this mess, here are a few security tips to make it harder for this to happen in future:

-Install and use SpyBot Search & Destroy.

-Use Firefox as your main browser (or Chrome, I guess)

-In Firefox, install NoScript and AdBlock Plus. Learn how to use both effectively (no excuses about it being too hard to understand; anyone making an earnest effort can read the manual)

-install and use something like AVG; it ain't half bad

-never, ever run Internet Explorer again.

In KSP Roleplay, Medwedian Police will make a virus to completely make computers unusable (The screen would appear already in DOS Mode). This would also automatically make a wildcard program that attacks the ISP and bans the law violator from the entire internet.

Good idea?

(Remember, i will never do it in RL, only in Roleplay, for example if a group of terrorists would attack Medwedia they would be banned from the entire Medwedian Internet so it would be harder for them to make their horrible work)

What you can try is the following:

Start the PC in safemode

delete all temporary files on your PC, especially those in the internetcache and such

run msconfig, disable all startups that you think are odd in name or location

If the location isn't in a temp/cache directory rename those directories (to stay on the safe side)

Start a virus scanner (if possible more than one)

Shut down the PC and leave it off for several minutes.

Restart the PC and take notice of all messages. If the Ukash virus still is present, redo the above steps.

Alternatively (if possible) http://www.spywareremove.com/removeaustralianfederalpoliceukashvirus.html could help you along.

Mind you, i didn't use this so i can't claim experience with that.

Personally i started in safe mode. I couldn't rollback to a previous situation so i deleted the temp files + all files in the internet cache. Rebooted and a message appeared that a certain program couldn't be started. On inspection of the startupfile (with msconfig) i noticed a strange entry in the startup file. I disabled that and i had no more problems.

The way i described on top is a safer way. As the viruswriters are usually quick to adapt their garbage, i can't guarantee succes, but you stand a fair chance it'll work. I hope it does.

Good idea for Roleplay, that reminds me to make laws to ban the use of trojans/viruses etc in my country.

Hope our advice helps you and you can get on your computer soon.

And how about a program that makes a computer explode?

For example, for executions of terrorists that are not captured?

Also another good idea, my Computer Protection Act has up to 7 punishments if you break nay of its laws and that's only Section 1 of it.

I'm making it now so I have it ready for when the RP has computers and has started.

Also, you got rid of the ransomware yet?

PM it to me.

And here the Medwedian Act:

ACT 3235/1982 (I will release this act in the late seventies or early eighties).

DIGITAL CRIME PUNISHEMENT ACT

The transferring of Prohibited Information, illegal copies of programs, and any other actions that may injure persons are strictly prohibited and will be strongly punished.

A. Internet Ban

B. Data Lock

C. Computer Lock with Fine

D. Timed Computer Lock (Just like temporary ban from a online game like ROBLOX, often combinated with a fine)

E. Permanent Computer Lock

F. Full Data Erase

G. Execution by Computer (A virus that attacks the Baseplate when in DOS Mode and makes the Computer explode to kill the violator.)
