Hotfixes please.

Recommended Posts

We're only 2 patches after launch, yes. But we're also entering a phase where small annoyances start to pop up every now and then. Before it was the timewarp window visible after turning off the UI, now it's been replaced by staging scroll bar. There's couple more like the camera setting itself to orbital on the surface, the infamous already out of fuel maneuver lock, probably more. These are things I believe that are worth a hotfix, because they're effectively making the overall experience worse, making me (us?) want to play less. And with tons of improvements in the patch, these new things are as annoying as someone showing up and poking you with a stick every 3 and a half seconds all day. It's hard to deal with them for another 3-4 weeks knowing they weren't there before.

In short, hotfixes for widely reported new bugs and design errors ASAP please very much.

You get to choose two outa three as a customer...

Fix it...

1. Fast

2. Good

3. Cheap

Maybe we should just let the Dev's do their job both "Good" and "Cheap" and forget about "Fast".   Because if you ask for "Good" and "Fast", then they break the budget at T2 and the project gets tossed.  We are already at "Cheap" and "Fast" and look where that ended up.

That's easy. Good and cheap for regular development, Fast and good for the small adjustments needed to fix regressions (design error or bug) that seriously affect gameplay, even if it delays the rest a little. It's not necessary to have the same priorities for two different development situations. Regressions that make gameplay worse are perceived a lot worse than bugs that have been there since the start and persist for a while longer.

In most cases I would agree with you.  But arguably, an educated guess at this point makes me believe that the Dev team has been on "Cheap and Fast" for a few months  prior to  EA release, which left out "Good" and they are now working with code that needs some TLC.   Any more "Fast" and the code gets uglier to deal with.  But that's all just speculation on my part...

Edit - And to have "Fast and Good" for expedited fixes, means you don't have "Cheap" and I would bet that T2 has dropped the hammer on the Dev team lately to let them know that "Cheap" has to be one of the two options until numbers start to equalize.    It's this perpetual loop where something has to give, or the project gets torpedoed.
