Kerbal Space Program's PIONEER PLAQUE

Recommended Posts

So, anyone who is a hardcore space nerd like myself knows about the famous Pioneer Plaques. The plaques were designed by Carl Sagan, and illustrated by then-wife Linda Salzman Sagan in 1972. The plaques contain many key pieces of information, including illustrations of an average man and woman, the solar system, the sun's position within the galaxy, and even the hyperfine transition of Hydrogen. What I have created is an accurate Kerbin-version of this plaque. Even the distances from the sun (represented in binary in units of 1/10 of mercury's, or in this case, moho's orbital radius) have been recalculated. I did, however, decide that instead of sketching Kermen, using photos of them was better looking.

I have a 16:9 and 4:3 version available, both with a width of 1080px.

I guess I should just say this: I don't mind how you use this wallpaper as long as you give credit for it's use. That means you can adapt it, change it, or do whatever you feel to it, as long as I'm credited with making the original. I would recommend if you use this outside of the KSP community to also credit Squad if possible, because KSP is not mine.

That's all I have to say about that...

Really nice! Thanks :)

It's on my desktop right now :D

That's Awesome! Glad you like it! I have it on my second monitor currently haha.

That would be great if you can, thanks for this amazing piece of work.

RIP Pioneers.

I'm working on making it as an attachable strut to you rocket/plane, however I have never done anything like this before, and frankly I keep screwing up because I have no clue how to work blender yet XD the tutorial doesn't say how to add textures! D:

But I'll let you know as soon as I get it working. It's going to be to scale, the original plaque was 23x15 cm, and rockets in KSP are generally 2.5 times smaller than their real-world counterparts, so it will be the proper size, Ill try and make a 2x larger version as well in case someone wants it bigger.

Time for me to be a pita..

This is a sketch made by Timmon26.

How about... using it for the plaque ? I know there isn't female kerbals in the game and you explicitly said you didn't want to use sketches. But it would be that 1 bit closer to the original.

Wait like, twenty minutes.

I'm literally making one right now.

EDIT:

Here it is with my sketches.

Yours are both better than mine! Haha, oh well, I threw mine together pretty quickly anyways.

It's too bad we have no information regarding where the Kerbin system is relative to our sun (assuming it's in the same galaxy, but it could be in a different galaxy entirely), because I could fix that as well. Maybe I'll do a new version with drawn kerbins once my hand decides to not be dumb again XD

I guess nobody is as space-geeky as myself... darn.

*coughs*

I wouldn't say that...

*points down*

Okay, now that is awesome.

(mounting holes, Mk I capsule and everything.)

I bow to the work of a real artist.

Those links don't seem to work anymore, but I would really love to have a copy of this. Any chance you could hook a brother up?
