Performance KSP becomes really slow

So i built a medium to large rocket and saved it. If I now try to load the rocket or launch it, it doesn't work properly or its really slow and everything reacts seconds to minutes later. Sometimes even my save fails to load and I'm stuck on the loading screen.  I play on windows and have the staem version.
