Medium and Large aerospike engines

Recommended Posts

Could we please get M and L size aerospikes instead of just the small one?

The medium could be a linear aerospike, based on the XRS-2200.

The large or XL could be another toroidal one based on Phil Bono's Rombus.

Would fit well in the way the engines are categorized. for sizes S, M and L we have a booster, sustainer, vacuum and extendible-nozzle engine. Adding for all these sizes also a aerospike would be cool. A linear aerospike does not seem very optimal in my opinion considering all parts are round (Maybe only for MK2 size)

Doing the same for radially attached engines would also be very practical.

The aerospike's specific performance niche is for efficient, long burning stages that go all the way from the ground to the edge of the atmosphere or space. It appears to be balanced after the swivel sustainer engine, trading away gimbal in exchange for more TWR and sea level ISP.  The larger sustainer engines Skipper and Rhino also have lower sea level ISP than the dart, so the niche is definitely there!
