Marooned on the Mun!

Recommended Posts

Jeb has committed Mutiny and must be marooned on the Mun!

Your mission is to take off from KSC carrying Jeb (or any other Kerbal) and place him on the Mun. No return trip is scheduled! The agency wants to spend as little money as possible so weight is the driving factor; the lower the better.

The Specifics:

  • Record your weight in the VAB
  • Take off from KSC carrying a Kerbal (single launch)
  • Place your Kerbal (alive) on the surface of Mun.
  • Include a record of all staging events showing Dv

Videos are more fun for everyone but pics will do.

Since one way trips to the Mun are one of the earlier achievements for most players, I am hoping that this challenge will help a few newer players learn how to optimize their ships. You don't need a big ship to go a long way! Let us know how many hours you've been playing (Combined KSP and KSP2) so that we can congratulate your achievement!

Hi @ralanboyle and All :)

Here is my entry for this challenge... 2.44 Tons with Jebediah onboard.

I already played 858 hours on KSP2.... and a lot more on KSP xD (ok ok i'm a big fan of this game..... lol)

That was fun to play without reaction wheels xD

Hi all

Here's my entry - I'm already second place :/

I made it with 11.77 tons.

I have ~150 hours in KSP2 and ~200 hours in KSP.

My first tries were without a reaction wheel as well but I found that way too annoying and invested the 75kg.

Excellent,

I was hoping to wake up to a couple entries and you did not disappoint!

@astrobond Yours looks remarkably similar to what I've been playing with although I'm not as optimized yet, up around 3T right now. Also, you might be winning for time played on KSP2... that's a lot for this point in early access. I also have a few hours in KSP...

@Goddchen Nice rocket. Your upper stage is well optimized and I bet you can chop your lower stage in half with a smaller engine. You have a better understanding of the game than I did at 350 hours!

Glad to see I'm not the only one who went for a Tuck and Roll Landing.

I didn't use jets and went for spark engines. I was attempting to get under 2 tons, and it would have worked if it wasn't for that darn atmosphere and drag.

So I wound up at 3.27 tons.

This is the best one, from the final RCS pack landing.
