KSTS- A project

Well i have built the KSTS, my own spin-off of the space shuttle tweaked to work in KSP. (Kerbal Space Transport System)

"This resulted when i got frustrated with horizontal takeoff space planes, so its technically still a space plane :P"

Launch KSTS-1: First Orbital Mission, Success (Picture not yet here, but coming)

Launch KSTS-2 Second orbital test flight, rendevous with Dusty Orbital Science Station: Proves rendevous Capability. Success

Launch KSTS-3 Launch of communications satellite into LKO at a altitude of 100km, Proves payload capacity of ~1 ton. Success

Launch KSTS-4 Anomaly had during launch, aborted. Failure.

Launch KSTS-5 (finally a picture!) Test docking with Dusty Orbital Science station, Proves Inline docking is possible. Success. Picture: IF8qXyn.png

Specifications:

Current orbiters in service: Horizon

Top speed: 2300 m/s (duh)

Vessel Cost: $50 million (assuming 1 cost is 1k dollars)

Orbiter Cost: $25 million

Payload to LKO: ~1 ton

Estimated leftover Delta-v: 100 m/s after landing.

Propulsion: 1 LVT-30, (or 45, i know its the one that gimbals) 2 Rockomax Solid boosters, a bunch of radial engines to balance the thrusts.

Advantage: Cost is only $25 million per launch compared to around $100 million for my conventional launchers.

Crew Capacity: 1

Vertical Takeoff and Horizontal Landing.

Takeoff! hovT6bC.png (do you really need to ask the altitude)

Booster Seperation! q0Ccw40.png @ 4 km altitude

External Tank Seperation! @ 10 km altitude

Main engine cutoff. @ uh, i think around 40km (i forgot) jQBOD2b.png

Jebediah havin' fun in orbit. @ 70 km (look no hands!) mrOUR0X.png

The Craft looks Really Good but How does it fly as a plane?

Keep up the Great work!

It flies pretty well as a plane, if you get the de orbit right you can glide to a touch down at the KSC runway.
