Dodgems!

Recommended Posts

This is a challenge that requires good maneuvering skills.

The plot: bob liked struts and beams and girders and pretty much everything structural so he piled it all onto his command module. Upon reaching kerbin orbit he decided to get out and look at kerbin but the door was blocked. He freaks out and pushes the door so hard all the parts fly off and form an inescapable cloud.

What you need to do: make a craft that fragments Into at least 12 pieces. Then send a spacecraft to the debris cloud. Try to make it through at (at least) 100m/second.

You may do it in Eva but you don't earn success points otherwise.

Points:

50 per 10 more debris you add to the cloud (watch your lag)

Minus 10 every rcs port you use

50 per 100m/s you add to your speed before you go through

150 every ox-sat panel you have still at the end

75 points if you then land on kerbin safely

Minus 100 points every time you get hit by junk. (Not including ox-sat solar panels) Your ship cannot be highly shielded. No generators.

Fail if: your ship is immobilized or the pod is destroyed. You MUST use a manned craft. Please comment how well you did.

If you tried this you'd learn a few things.

(A) It's really hard to get hit by debris, no matter how much you have, you have to deliberately intercept the debris.

(B) You're in orbit, your velocity will be well over 100m/s.

© Apart from the craft labels of the distant parts on rails to look at, it'll be pretty dull.

replying:

(a) i think it would be better to make the debris craft and dodging one the same one, so you can double back

(B) i meant relative speed to the debris, not to kerbin.

its designed as a fun challenge. i am pretty sure its possible. also the debug toolbar doesn't have any penalty points

How in the world would one accomplish this? Hitting debris is *hard* to do on purpose, and if you "fragment Into at least 12 pieces" that suggests that you have imparted some relative velocity to those parts so they will just keep getting farther apart.

*Please* read the guidelines and attempt your challenges first. You would have seen that this is unreasonable.

Okay, I visualized this lots but it doesn't work somehow. But I have a chellenge that WILL WORK.

It's not too hard, and I've done a test flight of it and even posted the video on YouTube so I know it can be done.

Build a cart and mount a small range icbm on the back.

10 points for every km it travels from the cart

10 for every 100m/s above zero its traveling when it impacts

No part limit

1 stage rocket (cart *decoupler* rocket) only

Your choice of solid or liquid fueled

Only one rocket engine of either type (excluding seperatrons)

No rcs

Flap limit 3

No debug toolbar

I would recommend starting off slow with a liquid engine and then throttling up once your about 100m away for it to look remotely similar to a trident rocket.

Really sorry, will test my challenges from now on.
