Antenna Mast on Kerbin North Pole

Hello.

After the forum crash, my previous post was deleted so i made this one.

Some time ago i thought about large mast on Kerbin and decided to do this on North Pole. I made many test before it, almost whole day spent on building and planning. After about 100km fully manual ride i decided to download newest mechjeb with rover autopilot which makes things a lot easier when my vehicle was on plain area.

No Kerbal suffer or get injured during this mission. (Crash picture is only a visualization) :D

Cheers everyone.

ah cool you put this back up. Lets pretend the forum crash never happened and I'd not seen this before;

Wholly heck!!! Did you actually drive that thing all the way out there!! At first I just assumed that you launched it, flew it to position and parachuted back down. That's one heck of a driving mission. So after you spent a day building and planning, how long did it take to actually drive it to its destination?

You really should check out the remote tech mod. Then you can make it actually part of a communication relay network. But regardless, that is pretty cool thou.

I played mostly few hours per day, and it took me a week maybe. So let me say 15h maybe :). When the terrain was plain i set course and speed around 8m/s and x2 warp. It's around 1000km trip so you can calculate approximate time.

This looks pretty slick - Might have to do something sim, adding the http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/telemachus/ [0.19.1] Telemachus – Telemetry and Flight Control in the Web Browser you could get info like temp from the location. Have been meaning to look into the remote tech mod as well.

Problem is there are so many things you can do, add, etc.. What to play with next ;)

I am also curious how long it took to drive to the north pole! ;)

makes me want to drive one to my north pole for Remote Tech

I checked this mod after i put mast on NP and i need to experiment with stock antenna range, maybe after that it will have a contact with geosynch sats.

Temperature is quite high 019.75(from 2HOT thermometer) and pressure 0.9932(from PresMat Barometer).

With the Remotec "probe compatability pack", you can turn your stock dish antenna you already have on your mast into "Remotec ready" ones.

Should be interesting to see if you can get a permanent link with the Mun this way.

Also, congrats for your trip, totally sick and amazing ^^

Oh that's cool! Epic road trip with a 'high profile vehicle'. ;)

For some reason, I'm always fascinated by polar solar stuff. If you orient the solar panel vertically, it tracks the sun along the horizon and always has 100% exposure. No batteries required! Also, no LOS for communication networks. I want to build all my colonies on the poles now.

Thank you very much. I also downloaded this mod and i needed to cheat a bit becouse stock dishes are only to 50km range or so and normal antennas are up to 9km. It's not enough, so i made some changes in part file to increase it.

Here it is https://www.dropbox.com/s/iq9e2l4lwngi30g/Mast%20II.craft craft file. Check if there is a mechjeb console on craft, becouse i forgot to do that. You may add more solar panels on the bottom of vehicle. Do not open large panels on top of the antenna when moving. Fuel tanks are only to lower the centre of mass.
