Whats the problem with DLCs?

Here's where I stand on the issue:

I think that the idea that KSP devs charge extra for extra content is fair, as long as it's not on the "Planned Features" List, go ahead, charge 10 bucks for the cool extra system that has binary stars and 12 planets custom made. KSP is already worth, to me, way more than what is being charged, and to support this awesome game through purchasing extra content isn't an issue.

It was because their wording on all future updates made it seem like all dlc would be free too (At least to some, I thought it was fine).

I'd still like to throw extra money at squad for more stuff though ^^

why? minecraft is doing fine without dlc, why would ksp need dlc?

Minecraft has sold millions of copies, making Mojang a lot of money. KSP has sold quite a lot of copies, maybe a few hundred thousand, so DLC or expansion packs would give Squad more profit and let them carry on developing new games. In the end it's all down to Squad's business plans, which nobody here can comment on with any degree of confidence.

What makes me sad is that there are other games out there like the Sims franchise that nickel and dime their customers to the extreme, and yet a small, awesome little game like kerbal isn't allowed to make a bit of money on some DLC?

I buy DLC if i like it and for Kerbal i would buy a lot of extras simply because i like the game itself so much, the more the better for this game.

Sweet necro, bro.

But yeah, I think DLC's are great but they shouldn't put them out until the end of the game (which I think is the plan, anyway). And I think what they said was a great idea. DLC's for everybody that bought before May (April 30th).

But I do have a question. What about if you transferred it to Steam after April 30th? I mean, I know it keeps track of your store account but... I dunno I'm just curious.

If a DLC adds content to the game thats one par with, or better than, release quality then I'm all for it.

Borderlands 2, Crusader Kings, Damn near every MMO, and most Bioware RPGs are good examples off this. They make DLC packs that actually expand upon the original game in a meaningful way. I'm sure Squad will take a similar route as they seem like a great team.

Now "horse armor" DLCs on the other hand....

This problem had been discussed multiple times for last months and every point of this discussion had been explained in sufficient way, there is no need to continue this :).
