Amazing job! Thanks a lot!

Is it possible to get the maps data of Kerbin please? I can't find it in your Dropbox. I would like to make some 3D renderings with this!

These maps are really cool' date=' but how do I get the maps of the moons? I don't see any moon icons, nor any drop-down menus.[/quote']

The body switcher on the top right shows all the planets. Hover over a planet and the moons will drop down.

Kerbin was the first map I did and it's only half the resolution as the rest. I will upload it for you once I redo it.

Ok thank you!

Just that you know what I plan to do with this; I was working on >this< but I had to stop due to missing Kerbin HD texture.

And don't worry, I do not intend to take any credits for your awesome texture!

Hello, I tried to open/edit the elevation type map (I tested only Gilly and Eve) but I get this error:

convert: Sorry, can not handle images with 32-bit samples.

I also tested Gilly's truecolorcomposite and sloperelief which work fine. So I'm really wondering what is different to the elevation map.

All the maps are in GeoTIFF format. The color maps have RGBA channels so most editors can open them and just ignore thee spatial metadata, the elevation maps on the other hand are one channel of 32 bit floats, image software cant render it. Use GIS software that supports the format, QGIS for example is free open source software.

This is Awesome! Is there a way by chance you could somehow make it show our ships from our save by uploaded the save or something?

Maybe one day. For now take a look at [thread=24594]Telemachus[/thread], it uses kerbalmaps data.

Awesome work, thanks. It's incredibly useful.

2 questions from me though:

1. Where did you get elevation data from?

2. What sofware did you use for this? Is there any tutorial on how to do this? I would like to do some selective, high resolution maps for my landing sites but I have no idea how.

You're welcome.

1. The elevation data was collected with a not yet released custom plugin. Take a look at the thread history for more info.

2. I processed the elevation data with GDAL command line utilities that I scripted with bash and used GIMP to overlay the shading over the color map (using GIMP's command line interface)

I tried QGIS, but it shows me only a gray rectangle (with Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7).

Fabian

Try changing the color in that layer's properties. Pseduocolor is a good place to start.

AH nice I can see it, but actually I want to use it as an usual image, but when I save it as image it only saves the active viewport and without the awesome high resolution.

Unfortunately for you, Kerbol and Jool don't have any maps as landing on them is either an one way suicide trip or impossible.

Aww, I guess I misunderstood the topic heading. Kerbol looks incredible when you get close to it, I was curious to see if it had any neat geographical features.

Can please add the new maps for the updated planets and maybe a toggleable grid?

Moho, Eve, and Duna updated. What are the use cases for a grid that aren't already handled by the lon,lat coords on the bottom left?

Do you have a .bmp or .png version of the elevation maps please?

QGIS is really not easy to use for uninitiated users.

Thanks.

The elevation maps are raster digital elevation models. It has one band of 32 bit floats representing elevation in meters. Images have three 8 bit bands with red, green, and blue (sometimes a fourth for alpha). PNG and BMP formats dont support floating point, so it cant be stored in those formats.

On another note, I've updated the satellite view for all the bodies that were not changed in 0.21. It should now match the more exaggerated shading I used for those what did change in 0.21. I think it provides a much better visual representation of the terrain.
