VAB Part fine tuning

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to fine tune the positiojn of partS?

I imagine a feature where you could just hover over a part and click into fine tune mode of a part and the adjust the position and orientation with the keyboard in very fine increments.

I've also been wondering this; how is everyone building such symmetrical designs? By painstakingly zooming in on every part to get it placed correctly? What do you use as reference?

Some way of snapping parts to exact positions would be great

Pressing X will turn symmetry on, then you only need to place 1 iten and 2,3,4,5,6 will appear, if you press C that will snap the placement to a hexagonal point shape, press C again, and your free to place where you like.

I will confess that when doing asparagus staging designs, I have no qualms about hand-editing the file to get the placement I want, though I only edit the vertical position for the most part.

Are you using symmetry? (x key)

Try editing settings.cfg and setting VAB_ANGLE_SNAP_INCLUDE_VERTICAL = True

Or use deadbeef's edtools.

Problem is that you are using two degrees of freedom to control three degrees of motion.

What I would really like is the ability to touch a spot on a part and touch a spot on another part and have them move together until the spots are adjacent.

I'll have a look at the deadbeef stuff when I am out from this firewall and can see dropbox.
