The unnstopable hyperweapons thread

Hold on, you...

1. expect to compress deuterium into a pellet.

2. expect to achieve a perfect delayed reaction by shooting it with lasers.

3. expect any reaction by shooting it with lasers.

1. I did say that I might not keep the pellets.

2. Again, only needed for the pellets.

3. Again, only needed for the pellets.

;.;

But, I plan to actually make this what it was originally supposed to be; a giant laser thingo of death. Simply continously stream some deuterium into the reactor, ignite the reaction, and make the output of the laser the result of the reaction. But I don't know if enough particles or energy will be released for a solid death beam of death.

You guys expect a detailed diagram for my Hyper-V, right?

No dice. But, actual blueprints will be made with details.

Have some rough sketches for the time being.

(H^2 is deuterium, for you people that don't know)

Stages:

1 - Deuterium is compressed by some sort into a pellet, maybe the output of a deuterium-tritium fusion reactor to get the extra neutrons needed to create tritium out of it

2 - The pellet is being pointed at by many high power lasers (please standby for the actual mW needed) to activate. The amount of exposure depends on when the pellet is meant to go off. The power levels in the pellet towards countdown are exponential, so extreme precision is needed here. This is all assuming that there is enough power in the pellet to sustain the small reaction.

3 - The activated pellet is driven through by a series of donut-shaped magnets identical to the ones in the LHC to get some serious speed out of this. The amount of power supplied depends on the distance the pellet needs to travel / the time to asplosion.

Assuming that I keep the fusion pellets, the size of the pellet is undecided. (Which means also that the actual size of the cannon is also undecided.) In fact, it might even be variable. Does anyone know the amount of joules released in a deuterium-tritium fusion reaction?

You might be interested in the OMEGA LASER

By the way, that's a real thing. I took a tour of the laser hall where the required MEGAWATTS of laser power are accumulated by sequential amplification followed by frequency conversion.

The pellets were plastic-coated deuterium, suspended in the massive chamber by a piece of spider silk.

Thing is, more often than not the pellet would fly off and impale the chamber wall at some fraction of relativistic velocity without detonating.

You wouldn't be able to precharge a pellet for later ignition, the instant that laser hits the pellet it either flies off and smashes the side of the chamber or detonates on the spot.

But, but, the lasers will go on forever! And then some worlds will be accidently split in half!

Why not just find a comet made out of dry ice- frozen CO2.

Mine this comet and launch the resulting blocks of dry ice into a perfect column aligned with your intended planetary target allowing for orbital mechanics and the speed of light.

You then shoot this column with a small laser first to form it into a column of CO2 vapor, and then immeadiately hit it again with a much more intense light source operating in the self-destructive range.

The result is that the gaseous column of CO2 focuses the second impulse into a coherent beam, creating effectively a laser on an unheard of scale with output magnitudes limited only by the amount of energy used to excite it. Slicing a planet in half? It could skewer several of them and keep going. As seen in Star Trek.

And I have a similar risk with my bussard ramjet rock, an object in motion stays in motion. If I miss then that means someone somewhere sometime will have a very bad day.

This is why targeting is a must

Yes, but your bussard ramjet should also retain a small amount of fuel on board and an ignition source for it. If it looks like you might miss and you still have a little time before impact, burn either radial or normal to adjust your trajectory for a certain impact.

Where will you have the energy for that thing anyway? These lasers need a whole lot of Watts to actually apply enough joule onto the deuterium tritium reactor pellet to let it fusion. You will need to jumpstart it with a fusion reactor, thats what!

edit: i think you actually need a WHOLE SUN

Not really.

See my above post with the link to the OMEGA laser.

They're hitting a pellet of deuterium with a 40,000 joule laser pulse, and when it doesn't go flying and impale the chamber wall it sometimes detonates to give useful results.

Keeping in mind that Bussard Ramjets have a terminal velocity (unless they are using magic tech). This is reached when the relative velocity of the incoming hydrogen equaled the drive's exhaust velocity. Drag from the scoop, you see. This means a proton-proton fusion Bussard Ramjet would have a maximum speed of 12% c.

Unless you can figure out a way of inducing the scooped hydrogen to undergo fusion Without Slowing It Down First. Which is magic tech.

I have a few hyperweapons listed on my web site

Oh no. The ONLY thing I like about 40K are the antics of the Angry Marines, thats it.
40k is my 2nd favorite sci fi series I just love the darkness.
OMG! I totally forgot about the Sun gun!

It should also be noted that it originally was invented before the Nazis ever took power, they just said Hey that looks like a fun idea!

If there is one thing you can always rely on it's the Third Reich coming up with crazy ideas for things~<3

Now that I think about it, an unstoppable hyperweapon doesn't need to be something that can level cities or burn whole planets, it just needs to be a much larger stick than what the other guy is using.

To that end, MAUS TIME!!!

No actual footage of one in action, so this is all you get:

who ever designed the Maus deserves hero of socialist labor for helping the Soviets ending the war early.

but if we want to talk about unstoppable tanks well the Maus cant penetrate this tank anywhere from the front.

You know, if Hitler and Stalin had actually completed a superweapon and had it work, history would have taken a totally different course.

But since they didn't, can we please refrain from insulting each other? They have their places in history, and it is not appropriate for them to be referenced when insulting people.

Stalin had the bomb.

Impact is a rather fast and painless way too go. The unending torture of being flung into intergalactic space in a dying solar system with no hope of ever being able to reach the fast receding local cluster on the other hand makes traditional hell look like a picnic.
