[0.19] Station Kit Mk1 - A space station in a box!... may require assembly.

Recommended Posts

OK, here's something a little out of my usual comfort zone. Easing off from developing the Bugs and LKs for a while until .20 as I'm pretty happy with them as they are for .19.

So I thought I'd give a station a go! Can be used for Kerbin or has just enough fuel for deployment at the Mun. The catch is you have to build it when you get there! An rcs tug is supplied to shift the parts about once you've opened the box ;)

Hotkeys;

1. Open fairing to get to the parts.

2. Deploy communication module (once fitted)

3. Deploy fuel store module (once fitted)

4. Deploy Power module (once fitted)

I know... Station Kit is a really dull name, happy to consider suggestions for naming the Mk2!

I'm really not sure what to use the empty hangar for now... I had intended to jettison it but It looks too useful! Next missions will be to dock a Muna capsule and a Munbug.

another brilliant bit of work, keep it up!

Thanks!... I will ;) several things in the pipeline.

Really good effort and looks very tidy. Gonna give it a whirl now :)

Let me know how it goes! Trickiest part is getting the lid back on the "box".

I will soon create separate save where I´ll fly just your ships :D

I should really release them as a pack at some point. Possibly with some scenarios.

Never thought of doing it like this. Definately something new that I will have try.

I really wanted to combine the challenge of constructing a station with the challenge of getting a station launched in one mission. I will probably keep producing stations with this kind of kit layout.

I like the idea, i might use this as a base for my soon to be Mun station.

On another note this is the first craft i have gotten from you, and i have to say you do your asparagus staging in a very unique way. At first i thought something failed when i saw a liquid booster fall out of the bottom.

Ha, yes. Took me a while to work out the design. It's because several tanks need to drop before the SRBs finish firing, so they drop from behind them :)

Just got the whole thing into orbit. About to start fiddling with the rcs tug in a bit :)

Let us know how it goes! Working new type of station which has a more stable tug (has ASAS instead of SAS), this one is a challenge but can still put the station together! Hardest part is fetching and re-attaching the fairing.

Can barely get it into orbit, the one time i did nothing happened and nothing unpacked. How do i unpack it? Do i need a mod?

Sorry you're having trouble... has enough DV to get into orbit around the Mun. Are you remembering to jettison fuel tanks and boosters as they empty?... otherwise you will be carrying dead weight which will slow you down. Hotkey to unpack is listed in main thread.

Craft is 100% stock and needs no mods.

The drone is a little difficult to control. Any advice/instructions?

Practice :)... seriously though you're right, it's because it only has SAS not ASAS. The MK2 I'm working on will have ASAS to make things much easier.

My biggest issue was being unable to tell what it would do when I pressed a button, lol. I may try again from scratch with the Mk2. I accidentally deleted the fairing after I got rid of it to remove clutter from Mun orbit not realizing I could put it back.
