Settings config file AUTOSAVE_SHORT_INTERVAL = 5 is for....

Recommended Posts

Been trying to figure out what the heck this line is just under the autosave interval, so I sent an email to the devs and this is the response I got:

"That's the time interval for another attempt at saving, in case the first attempt fails (due to being under acceleration, or flying or any situation that might prevent saving). If the auto save fails, it will continuously retry on that interval until it's able to save again."

Best Regards,

If anyone is experiencing loss of frame rate, stutters, this could be a reason for that. Its probably rare to have the game trying to autosave at the same time you are in timewarp, but if it does happen at the same time it could cause stutters or low frame rate while the game attempts autosave every five seconds until you are not timewarping. I changed my autosave interval to 2400 or every 40 minutes, and I doubled the "AUTOSAVE_SHORT_INTERVAL=5" to 10 seconds. It should be more like 120sec or 2 minutes. But since these 2 things happening at the same time is pretty rare, autosave and timewarp, I'm leaving my settings where they are until I experience the stutters again.

KSP might be trying to save during launch, but it can't when in an atmosphere and the 5 second interval is not far off the ~4 seconds reported by people with the sound stutter issue.

It'd be very interesting to see what changing this does for someone affected with stutters :)

This is the SETTINGS.CFG file located in the main KSP folder. Open with notepad to edit. This particular setting is just below the AUTOSAVE_INTERVAL entry.

NOTE: Mine is only set to 10 sec, but it probably should be set higher. Figure what may be your average time spent in timewarp and then set the AUTOSAVE_SHORT_INTERVAL to that. I'm gonna guess that it would be about 120 or 2 minutes.

Be great if I've solved a sound stutter and/or another problem some have been having. When I saw this entry I just had to find out what it was for and may have stumbled upon a solution. See you in 4 hours:cool:
