Question about mods

Yeah, follow those links, but in mi honest opinion, if you want te feel how ksp really is, dont use mechjeb. The game will teach you and you will learn lots by playing rather than the game playing for you.

MJ isn't playing the game for you. At best it's flying a ship for you, but KSP isn't just about flying ships, it's a space program sim that happens to have a ship flying component. In fact, for unmanned craft using MJ is even more realistic as you wouldn't necessarily have direct control of a ship, you'd issue instructions and the ship would execute them.

Mechjeb is awesome, if you use it for getting more data rather than actually "flying" until you get the groove of the game, that'll help you long term. After you're confident in your ability to do the things mechjeb does, letting a little automation creep in can make the game easier. . . usually by letting you get coffee while something's going into orbit :)

Works perfectly here as well. Several good points made here as well....it won't get a bad design into orbit at all, and it does give you a few free minutes to pet the dog, get some food etc especially if you just use it

to control say your 1st two stages, and then take over if you want for the orbit insertion etc.

Mechjeb is great. Not only does it provide a autopilot, but it also gives you great information about your orbit or when to start your interplanetary travel. Also mechjeb does a superb job alnding your craft in non air enviroments, and if you specify your orbit yourself mechjeb weill even eb able to land with a 100m margin of error next to your specified target (without specifing your orbit yourself mechjeb will most likely miss the target aroun 30 km) I also use Hydrotech for docking my larger crafts wit mutiple dockingports. If you need to have a specific orientation this will help you. Just be prepared to wait around 10-30 min until hydrojeb has docked, it likes to take its time.

"Mechjeb" isn't cheating in any way, and you will learn just as well with it.

Even without autopilot, all the information like the "Delta Velocity" per stages is a prerequisite to become good at the game.

Purist be damned, Computer are the future.

With the autopilot, you'll have the time to watch how it does it, what went wrong, what could make it better.

The last version of Mechjeb offer so much setting that you'll learn to understand concept like "Homann Transfer" and "Terminal Velocity", or why doing an interplanetary plane-change mid-course is cheaper than doing it during the original burn.

I'll even go as far as saying that Mechjeb will be obligatory late-career mode, because not everybody have fun launching 800 tons tankers and 12 geostationary satellite repetitively, but everybody have fun building them.
