Is Jeb immortal?

Every time i've killed/stranded Jeb, be it accidentally or intentionally, he has consistantly returned.

For example: He went out in a blaze of glory after a failed landing on the moon. next thing i know he's testing my new lander. In responce to this necromancy i launch him into a orbit around the sun with no fuel. At some point he will crash on Moho.

Anyone else have this kind of thing?

I think I have my save is corrupted or something because not only Jeb, Bill and Bob are immortal, they are also Lodsy, Sherner, Ludlas, Mitnard, Jedsy and other 5 or 6.

I'm pretty sure they all respawn. I don't think they have an infinite supply of kerbal names.

As I know there is a name generator for new kerbals so Jeb, Bill and Bob should be the only ones to respawn but in my save there are 11 other kerbals that also respawn.

All kerbals will respawn after they die. The only time you get new kerbals is when you start a new manned mission, and all the existing kerbals are on missions or dead. Obviously, this doesn't hold true with mods like Crew Manifest, and it likely will work differently when we get career mode, but it is accurate for the stock game as it is now.

"Rumors of my death were... Disappointingly understated..."

More on the topic of respawning kerbals, though. I currently have a station in orbit crewed by three.

All of them Bill Kerman.

Still awaiting more to launch up there. Such a brave souls.

3 Bill's in orbit... Win!

Jeb is Eternal.

No, really. In my game, the guy just will not die. Jeb's had at least a dozen rockets or spaceplanes explode on him, some of which in ways that I'm amazed were survivable. And yet, he's still alive, unlike Bill (died on my first Mun attempt) or Bob (spaceplane exploded on the runway). As a result, Jeb is the first Kerbonaut in my game to land on each planet or moon, and he just got home from a Grand Tour that took him to every single one in turn. You do not mess with Jeb; get him mad and he'll find a way to blow both of you up, then he'll walk away smiling afterward.

I mean, his last mission was taking a kethane-turbine spaceplane to Eve. That all went fine, but the return was a bit hairy; I was low on fuel and so decided to come straight down from the outermost edge of Kerbin's SOI, straight into Kerbin's atmosphere, instead of stopping off at one of my fueling stations to tank up. It was supposed to be an aerobrake, and I'd land on the second pass. But Mun got in the way, and it skewed my approach to where Jeb's plane was coming almost straight down at hyperbolic speed on the first pass. I'm sitting here pulling up the whole way down, and the descent bottomed out at about 6000m (~4000m above the terrain); if I hadn't seriously overbuilt that plane's controls, I'd probably have splattered all over a mountain range. (Did I mention that I had no rocket fuel, having spent the last of it to get home? Yeah, it was a glider at that point.)

And Jeb smiled the whole way.

Jeb, Bill and Bob have regularly returned to once again fly in each others company after a tragedy, something i think i'm going to miss when career mode comes around, they're also the only ones to have those spiffy orange space-suits whilst sitting inside their capsules.

If u download the MechJeb mod u'll see why Jeb seems to always survive in ur crashed. :)

Actually it's rather funny why.

While sucking (hard) in rocket technology, Kerbals actually have incredibly advanced anti-death devices. Whenever a Kerb's body dies, his conscious mind is simply projected into a new body, or clone. They spend a couple weeks in R&R (they just died, after all) and then they're back on duty.

Jeb has his own dedicated cloning facility at home, liek a baws.

Jeb never crashes. The planet surface is so excited for him to land, it rushes up to meet him.

Guys...Jeb is the Chuck Norris of Kerbin.

Jeb doesn't die, he just teleports for the heck of it.

Jeb, Bill, and Bob are dead in my save as far as I can tell. I didn’t edit my save at all (I wouldn’t even know what to edit) and they have not respawned for a mission in a long, long time. I have other Kerbals that have died repeatedly and exist in multiple places at the same time, but for whatever reason in my game, Jeb, Bill and Bob appear to be gone. Don’t know why this happened in my game and not others.

I believe, that rather than anything to do with clones, a kerbal's disembodied spirit re-coalesces in the ground, at certain places on Kerbin, and the body re-awakens when the time is right. Which is quite frequent for some of them.

Leave them on the ground, put them in a station, or send them interplanetary, that's the only way to stop them turning up.
