Eve lifter question

Recommended Posts

It's bigger than you want, but here is a craft for a vehicle that uses only the parts available in the demo to get to and from Eve. Due to part number constraints that are built into the game (struts and fuel lines disappear after ~2000 parts) I had to land at 4km altitude and also had to transfer from my ascent vehicle to an orbiting return vehicle to make it work.

Nice, Just being able to look at it and see what it takes to get down and back up off of Eve will help me!

My sea level probe ascent vehicle is only 65 tons on the pad on Kerbin, about 36 tons landing at Eve sea level, and gets back to Eve orbit successfully.

can we see pictures of that ship? I'm building a probe return vehicle as well.

getting ready for gathering Blutonium on Eve :)

Top secret! Or not: http://imgur.com/a/e9VPe#0

As you can guess from the MET I persistence-edited this to Eve, but the transfer stage has plenty of delta-V to get there. I'm not absolutely positive if I can both get there and land without using any of the ascent fuel. I've been doing ocean landings since they make bigger targets from orbit than the beach does, not sure whether the max safe landing speed on solid ground would be slower or faster than in water.

Sir you must have the monster computer to end all. I used to think that my quad core phenom II was pretty good but when faced with flying this monster it feels like the oldest dinosaur in computing history.

I just tried this ship and I got something under 1 FPS on the launchpad. It was so bad I had to slap a mechjeb onto it in order for it to be controllable at all.

The first minute of the flight took just over half an hour realtime.

I was hoping that I can build a Eve lander / return ship that I can actually fly but now I've serious doubts whether that's possible or not.
