I accidentally killed Jeb...

Recommended Posts

Poor Jeb has met his end in an unfortunate incident involving Minimus and RCS thrusters. (Don't ask. Alcohol was involved.)

"OK", I think, "I can fix this." So I open up persistent.sfs, find Jeb...

CREW

{

name = Jebediah Kerman

brave = 0.5

dumb = 0.5

badS = True

state = 3

ToD = 396511.623642548

idx = 0

}

...and use my godlike powers to bring him back.

CREW

{

name = Jebediah Kerman

brave = 0.5

dumb = 0.5

badS = True

state = 1

ToD = 0

idx = 0

}

Restart the game and... still no Jeb. Check persistent.sfs again and it has reverted to its pre-edited state. Jeb's dead.

I thought at first that my persistent file was getting overwritten from somewhere but other changes I make to the file are sticking (I cleaned up some debris while I was in there). Debris is gone but still no Jeb.

I've tried starting a new world and copying its crew data over in case I had a bad character somewhere but that didn't help. I've tried to make the changes several times, exited and re-started the game and even tried a reboot. No luck.

Is there something somewhere else that maintains crew state that it is restoring from? I do have the Crew Manifest mod installed but can't find if it has its own file or not.

I suppose I could start a new world and copy all my craft and orbiting vessel info over but I don't know if that will screw something else up.

Yeah, it's a minor thing but any suggestions?

TIA

In Crew Manifest, create a new Kerbal, then change his name and stat to Jebediah's.

Happy flying! :)

That won't work, at least it didn't when I tried. Said the name was already used

This happened to me before - I revived Jeb by doing the following:

- Backup your quicksave and persistence files

- Delete the quicksave

- Edit the persistence file to revive Jeb

It seems that the quicksave sometimes takes precedence over the persistence file.

OK, back on my home machine. Permadeath is off in Crew Manifest. I also tried editing both the quicksave and persistence files with no luck. And I found that if I delete Jeb completely KSP won't even load my save at all.

At this point I'm just going to hope that he eventually reappears. With 0.20 coming out soon I'll probably be restarting anyway. It just means Bill and Bob will have to fly my first planetary landing without him. They'll pour one out for him on Duna.
