Tips to land a rover with a lander.

Recommended Posts

How do people get rovers with their landers AKA Apollo moon rovers.

I can't find a design that lets me build things with wheels underneath the lander. The rest of the rocket doesn't fit.

Trying to put it anywhere other than the bottom of the lander means I have to bring 2.

How do people bring just one?

A single lightweight lander attached to the side of a landing stage does not, in my experience, throw off the CG too badly.

I used a cubic strut, a probe-sized decoupler, and another cubic strut attached to the rover proper.

One way to solve this is to use an small fuel tank on radial decopler to stabilize, decople rover, transfer fuel from tank to lander and decouple it.

Main benefit of bottom placement is that its better for larger rovers and easier to use an docking port so you can pick up the rover again.
