Science in TV series and cinema

Recommended Posts

Simple.

1.Science is hard

2.It's a movie

Though I must admit, I would sit through Race to Mars if I actually had the attention span...

Yeah but it is just a bad movie, it would be like the end of Star wars where Luke takes of Vaders (his dad) mask and it turns out it isnt Annakin but Jar Jar Binks...

And to quote wiki:

Europa Report has received generally positive reviews from critics. Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a 79% 'Fresh' rating based on 47 reviews, calling it "Claustrophobic and stylish, Europa Report is a slow-burning thriller that puts the science back into science fiction."[8] Review aggregation website Metacritic gives a rating of 67 out of 100 based on reviews from 23 critics, which indicates "generally favorable" reviews.[9]

Justin Chang, of Variety magazine, called the film "A reasonably plausible and impressively controlled achievement."[10] while space.com said the film was "One of the most thrilling and realistic depictions of space exploration since Moon or 2001: A Space Odyssey."[11] Fearnet said the film was "One of the most sincere, suspenseful and fascinating science fiction films of the past few years."[12]

It's really hard s-f; well, except maybe for the idea of private company launching mission to Europa in the first place. :)

Not if they get paid, might be cheaper to get an company involved in asteroid mining to do an scientific Europa mission for payment, the added benefit that the congress critters who approved the mission don't get blamed then they impact.

The premisce of the movie is that signs of life were discovered on Europa, so they skip Mars and NEO programs and head straight for Saturn... They say it's the first manned mission beyond lunar orbit since Apollo. I suppose that the mission could be funded by the government and the company gets exclusive rights on the commercial exploitation of any biological discoveries.

Is there any movie that takes place a couple hundred years in the future when mankind has colonized the entire solar system? No warp drives or other star systems. It would be an interesting setting. Cities on Mars, maybe beginning the terraforming process etc.

You'll be happy to know that 4 years after you made this comment, the show you were wanting came!  Its called The Expanse.
