Apollo style rocket, with 2 stage LM + Rover

Recommended Posts

Looks like Mulbin has some competition! Very nice craft! I´ll fly it right away! :)

EDIT:

It flies really nice, lander looks just stunning and the rover looks and drives great. Fuel margins are just right, maybe not the easiest craft for newbies, but for moderately experienced players it is just right.

I modified it a bit for me that it will reach the Mun using mechjeb. ooh and also you don't have to use a decoupler between the CSM and the MEM they will disconnect if you rightclick the docking port.

Yeah, I only added the separator so newer player's who may not know about this wouldn't get stuck, also the Engine fairing tends to stay stuck to the node until you do a qsave/reload.

This is the best Apollo I've ever seen, I especially like the way you did the lander decent module. Only way to improve it would be to ad some fairings around the lander at launch.

I've started to work on a fairing version.

But at the moment It's having issues when I try to separate the LM from the fairing stage, it keeps breaking the landing legs off.

I'll link the .craft file. If anyone can help improve the design so it separates better I would be pretty happy.

The other issue is the extra weight makes the fuel very tight.

Suggestions welcome.

Edit: I've worked out the Clash issue. So this version works, though the fuel is still tight, so make sure you make the most of your fuel reserves.

I´ll take a look into it :)

I worked out a solution, as always it was rather simple, and all I had to do was rotate the fairing so the legs where between the angles of the structural panels. Thanks for taking a look though.

The Link has been updated with the current design if you would like to take it out for a whirl.

I do like a good Apollo inspired rocket! I really like your lander and Buggy, very different.

Unlike my Apollo (Munbug) yours also won't kill people's computer with part count ;)

Thanks. I pretty much started with the Lander + buggy, and just built a rocket to work with it. I wanted to go 3 man like yours, but I couldn't work out a good way of building the lander. Your design for a 3 man is fantastic, even if it kills PC :)
