Tylo Manned landing/return Mission

Recommended Posts

Hey there!

So this is my first KSP forums post, so be nice.

This was my first Tylo landing attempt, and it was a success despite one mistake I made very early on that had a huge effect on the mission. My plan involved the Tylo lander getting back into orbit with very little fuel left (almost none, as it turned out) and use their crew module/return vehicle to rendezvous with them using a probe body that I was suppose to have already on the vehicle, but had forgot to add on back in the VAB. this meant that after I made the landing my three Kerbals were stuck in a very low Tylo orbit. However, Jebediah Kerman being the brave Kerbalnaut that he is, managed to make an EVA rendezvous with the crew module and rendezvous back with Bill and Bob who were waiting patiently in the lander. from there the return mission was easy.

This mission required 4 launches; one to put the lander/drive stage in LKO, one to launch the main fuel tank for the mission, one for the crew module/return vehicle, and finally a tanker to refuel everything before I left LKO for Jool.

Putting the kerbals in the lander "lawn chairs." using the new rover seats instead of a three man capsule let me greatly cut down on weight.
