SCS and RCS Conflicting During Docking and Landing

Recommended Posts

Hello Kerbonauts,

I'm currently having difficulty with my SAS and RCS during docking and landing. When I try to course correct with my RCS thrusters it tilts my craft from my projected SAS heading and my SAS immediately kicks in and forces the RCS thrusters to fire in the opposite direction. Could this be from the fact that my RCS thrusters are not on my center of mass? This is just a theory of mine and havent been able to test it out myself yet. Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forums! :)

They don't strictly have to be right on the CoM as long as they're balanced around it, but yes, most likely your RCS thrusters are off-balance. If it's only a tiny amount or your ship is sufficiently small, though, you could probably get away with selectively turning your RCS on and off as needed and let the SAS adjust the heading on its own.

Of course, we could probably diagnose it a little better if you could provide a screenshot of the craft in question.

The SAS is trying to correct the change in attitude of your ship that you are inducing with your manual inputs. When using RCS, I always hold down the 'F' key, which temporarily disables SAS until I am pointing the direction I want, and then release the 'F' key so that SAS kicks back in and holds my new heading.
