Help with KSP directory structure?

I am having issues placing plug-ins and mods. I have a parts directory, and there is a parts directory in game data-squad directory. I have no plug-ins folder, or plug-in data folder. Where should I create them? I am using the latest full version of KSP.

Most addons have the folder structure in the zip so just unzipping them to the main directory is usually enough

Otherwise it's a good idea to check the readme or the addon's thread for info on exactly where it should go, most things can go in the KSP_OS\Parts folder, and you can make the KSP_OS\Plugins folder yourself if necessary.

Plugins usually generate the KSP_OS\PluginData folder themselves.

My parts directory is empty, though the parts directory that is in the game data-squad directory has parts in it. Is this my parts folder I should be adding to?

Put the part files into the empty directory.
