[Theory] This may change your KSP view...

Kerbin looks alot like earth when you look at it closely.... Imagine if KSP is set in the far future in the solar system? As time went by, The earth changed. Earth got another moon, jupiter/saturn turned green and such.

Don't forget that the humans must have been much higher on the Kardashev scale if they were to be able to radically shrink everything in the solar system by a factor of ten.

But what if the material did not fall back to earth but some of it formed the second moon ,and the rest flung out into escape velocity.

That wouldn't explain why the mün is also 64% the size of its Earthly counterpart, if anything it would be bigger due to some of the debris becoming caught in its gravity well. Even if you look past that, in the time it would take for the planet to recover from such an event so that liquid water returned to the surface, the sulphur and other Poissonness gasses where buried within the crust and life evolved to a point that it has developed spaceflight the moon/mün at its current rate of departure would be much further away from Earth/Kerbin and may have left the planet's sphere of influence entirely. The sun would have also expanded and consumed Mercury/Moho and the water on Earth/Kerbin would be turning into a gas.

I know this whole topic is just a "What if..." but my logic-focused brain just can't look past the huge flaws in the concept, an interesting discussion though.

Year 59365

An asteroid collides with Earth, removing its tilt and launching tons of space cheese into a far orbit (now known as Minmus)

Earth is destroyed. No life remains, Humanity, having colonized the solar system, has fled to the Proxima Centauri system, where it remains on Centauri D then on as the solar system slowly fades away, earth remaining un-inhabitable.

2 billion years later, Earth has recovered, but humanity is long gone, along with any trace of its existence, its rotational period is reduced to 6 hours, the only surviving species are trees, and grass, when a new race pops up, Kerbals.

Mars pulls the entire asteroid belt into orbit, forming a large moon. The Oort cloud and Kuiper belt are flung out into interstellar space, Uranus, Neptune, and Saturn are absorbed by Jupiter, which also turns green. One of jupiters moons mysteriously gains an oxygen atmosphere and liquid water. Plutos orbit moves inwards.

Earth is renamed Kerbin, Mars becomes Duna, Jupiter becomes Jool, mercury becomes Moho and develops strange holes at its poles, Venus turns purple and becomes Eve, the moon becomes the mün, the comet Minmus is capture in Kerbin orbit, and Pluto becomes Eeloo.

As they age G type stars increase their luminosity, therefore in 10^9 years the surface of earth will be too hot for liquid water and subsequently organic life as we know it will end.

But the whole "Kerbol = future Sol" theory is fail anyhow.

Listen dude, if you can't find Uranus own your own you have an issue that cannot be answered here.

You are so funny. no really, I'm falling down right now. I can barely breath. look, i'm laughing; ha. ha. ha.
