long term missions + mods = pointless?

So quit depending on mods. The stock game has enough stuff in it to make it fun.

Nope. The stock game doesn't have much to do once you're actually on a planet; sure, you can now drive rovers around, but to do what? Even if you can keep yourself entertained doing the same basic landings over and over again, the stock game has one other fundamental weakness: right now, there's no real need to land on a SPECIFIC spot. Just pick a nice, flat spot and you're done. But try to land on a kethane deposit on a planet or moon that isn't tidally locked, and it's a whole different level; sometimes, you're forced to land on an inclined surface because it's the only place with the fuel you need.

But really, this is an evolving game. If you like making rovers now, well, the mods had that for quite a while before it became stock. So people who use those mods got to enjoy the rovers for longer than people who waited until the official version. The same goes for resources; you can wait until 0.22 or later for them to go in, or you can get a similar experience now with the Kethane mod. If you're going to disparage mods because the core game is sufficient, then I'm assuming you're still playing a year-old version because you don't want the new things they've added since then.

You think you have it bad? Us Mac players have to re-download (and then re-install) the entire frickin' game EVERY time we want to update! :P

I don't use Macs, don't understand them, but really? You can't, like, just make a copy of the vanilla folder?

I'm fine-tuning my missions without having any permanent installments on other planets or moons. But I have a big bunch of ships in my hangar files I adapt to every new version and usefull mod I use. So to speak: I ready-pack my future missions in my hangar to launch them, when KSP gets so final, that permanent installments make sense.

I'm happy to start all over again. Fresh install, slowly add mods.

This.

I even restart my ribbons every update and see if I can fill it back up before the next update that makes me wipe my save. It keeps the game fresh and fun!
