Pico Space Program

Hmm...

Have you tried doing New Horizons. to Eeloo?

Or maybe try a Voyager I grand tour to Jool and Eeloo.

And I have to say, your minirockets really stretch the meaning of "minirocket".

I'm amazed that you can even reach the Mun with these, nevertheless Duna.

But maybe it's because I can't fly a rocket efficiently to save my life. :P

Pico-Proton! That's adorable. Now flip it and back to the pad because someone mounted something upside down!

Rune. That would add a bit of dark-humored realism.

That already happened:

:P

when are you going to release the shuttle m?

Looks like the radial decoupler bug ruined the shuttle, and I don't have the time to fix it. That said, here's the download for the shuttle: http://www./download/v17p9h8t7vvsjby/Shutte-M.craft

Updated the Upsilon family. New fairings, new upper stage, and even a new rocket!

xzMAi1N.png

From left to right: Upsilon P, Upsilon A, and Upsilon B. 1.0, 1.75t, and 2.5t to 100km orbit respectively. The Upsilon Heavy has been omitted because those small fairings are too small to fit anything useful that weighs 5 tonnes.

I've been using these in my custom career mode game where all parts except for the KR-2L and LV-N are unlocked, and most of the funds come from science (set at 1000%). They're very useful thanks to their low cost and lifting capacity. They've effectively replaced the Epsilon series now.

Now so pico any more though. :/

It looks out of scale to be honest. Guess there's not much you can do with rockets that size. In how many parts does it split?

Two.

As for scale, the core stage and SRBs are a bit too short compared to the Centaur stage, so it should look better once I lengthen it.

I've always thought that rocket's fairings are way too big. :P

Have you tried a combination of octagonal struts and 650 I-beams? I know they're damn heavy, but they might be a better choice for small fairings. :)

If you need me to make subassemblies ever again I can do so.

No need now that subassemblies are vanilla, but I did appreciate your help in the previous versions.

I'll see if I still have them. Nevertheless, I have to rebuild the Ariane 5 anyways.

I spent more than an hour designing this Eve lander today. It quite a challenge to keep it compact enough to fit inside the less-than-elegant deployable heat shield assembly, but I like how it turned out.

^View in full resolution for more detail.

The launch vehicle is an Upsilon B2, which is more than enough to get the job done, but the extra room for error in such a substantial mission is always welcome. :)

BTW, I made a few changes to the Upsilon family so that the fairings could be jettisoned at 40km (for verisimilitude). I'll post the download soon.

I noticed that the monopropellant tanks were about three times denser than the liquid fuel ones. I took this to my advantage and made greatly improved Pico Boosters that would finally eliminate the need to clip more fuel into the core stage or boosters. :D

Here's the new Shuttle-M:

The boosters much last longer now and provide more delta-v. The new Shuttle-M can lift 0.4t more than the original.

Smaller versions of these boosters will be incorporated into other pico designs.
