Check the minimum requirement and see if yours fits in.

Requirement from the wiki:

Intel Core2Duo or equivalent.

2 GB of RAM (4 recommended).

Intel HD3000 or better (Dedicated video card highly recommended).

I have that one in my laptop and it runs like crap, i usually edit the .cfg to get somewhat smoother FPS on Kerbin and make it look like poo.

Luckily my desktop is decent.

Remember that it only runs on a single core so it doesn't matter if you have a dual core or an eight core... it's still only going to run on a single core.

So confused why SQUAD chose Unity.

I think its because unity doesnt requires a powerful graphics card, I mean, it's used in browser games.

On the other hand it isn't so stable and only uses one core.

Maybe because it beats trying to develop a complete physics engine from scratch? Thanks to the fact it's built on Unity, one guy was able to produce something playable after a few weeks. If this were built in straight C++, it never would have garnered the attention and fanbase (and income) that it has to encourage continued development.

The same disdain has been lobbed Minecraft's way because of its Java taint, but the fact is using the pre-existing framework allowed the devs to shortcut a lot of the dirty work of getting a solid proof of concept out in the wild.

That said, I'm hopeful that both projects will eventually decide they've got enough resources and support available to commit full re-writes to cut out the laggy and bloated (AND BUGGY) frameworks to become something entirely faster and better on their own.

I know. Is this 1998 or something?

Unity is:

a) Cross-platform

B) easy learning curve

c) Great assets pipeline, which supports most 3D packages

d) Great and helpful community and hundreds of useful tutorials

e) Good documentation

f) A big fund as backbone. So this engine will be further developed and getting better

g) one of the most optimized mobile engines (which means Squad is thinking of future possible portability)

Squad is thinking in long term, so that's why I think it chose unity over something like CryTek or UE.
