Only one question about 0.20 (and 0.21)

Recommended Posts

Hello. First off, I want to say I am NOT complaining, I just want to know why KSP now takes aprox. 10 minutes to load with a few mods? Now, before you yell at me saying "Ohhh the Devs aren't responsible for you using mods to lag your game!" I am simply asking why it now takes longer, and if this can/will be fixed in 0.20. Thanks!

Which mods are you using? More importantly, how many GB is your GameData folder?

I think the mods that still use the old folder structure take longer to load, so that might be a factor.

It's pretty much down to how fast your machine can load data from your hard drive, faster harddrives and faster memory help. I have about 1.8GB in GameData and about 400mb in the old parts folder, but I have it installed on a Raptor Harddrive (10,000rpm), it loads in just a couple of mins. (thou on some days it takes longer, not sure why, but never takes 10 mins)

IMO the vanilla game takes too long to load even ignoring the known issue. :/

I think Unity is tying the devs hands somewhat, but also that there is a lack of polish in this area anyway...

The answer to this was found actually :D

It's your network adapters in Windows, this is why it does not affect OSX or Linux, if you have any unused network adapters, even virtual ones like with virtualbox, they will slow the latest version of Unity down when it loads stuff.

So disable unused adapters and you should be fine :)

Wow. 10 minutes?

Just restarted KSP and timed it, took 36 seconds to the menu screen. That's a clean install running on a SSD, on a newly built computer, though...

OP, how long is it taking a vanilla install to load?

Well, with Vanilla KSP bout' 2 minutes.

And Sal, that seemed to work. Now Vanilla is 1 minute to load. You may want to sticky that solution, as for now the one that took 10 minutes to 5 after disabling 3 unused networks.
