Back in the saddle!

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I'm coming back to KSP after a break of a few months. I've just spent a bit messing about in vanilla and now I want to get geared up with mods before set out on my quest to map all the Easter eggs by exploration.

(I'm kind of excited :D)

I just want to know if I'm missing anything really obvious, or if I'm going to run into compatibly problems, or if I have the wrong versions of things, etc.

Here's the mods I'm planing on using:

Deadly Reentry 2.1

ISA MapSat 3.3.1

Kethane 0.4.4

MechJeb 1.9.8 (or should I use 2.0.8?)

Ferram Aerospace Research 0.9.41

Firespitter 5.1.1

Airships to Other Planets 2.0.2

RemoteTech 0.5.0.1 (with Probe Compatibility)

B9 Aerospace Pack R3.1

For the record here is what I've downloaded: http://puu.sh/3aLTY.png

I would go with MJ 2 It docks auto but it wastes a LOT of RCS so I just rendezvous and dock manually. Other than that looks good.

Cool, will do.

i'm not a mod person really, but have you thought about kspx?

I have now. :) Looks nice, thanks.

MechJeb 2 is a really good improvement of version 1.9.8. However, the docking autopilot is terrible and I do not recommend it. If you really need a docking autopilot, or have your dockings simplified without them being automatic, try HydroTech RCS, this mod gives incredible tools for docking and an incredibly efficient autopilot.

As for ISA MapSat, go grab the dev build on Innerswants blog page, the 3.3.4 version isn't compatible with .20 and he is currently working on 4.0 but it isn't complete yet, so he released a stable dev build. Link here

Else that sounds good, but watch out, with FAR, MEchJeb'S calculations for atmospheric delta V will be wrong. And he will seem to be going VERY fast after launch in atmosphere even if you limit it to terminal velocity because, well the terminal velocity with FAR is a lot higher. So be careful when mixing both. Else welcome back! :D

Exactly the kind of information I was looking for, thank you very much!

OH! I forgot something important! Mixing FAR and Deadly Reentry can be disastrous for your ship. Since the terminal velocities are higher, DR doesn't expect that and assumes you are going too fast for the stock aerodynamic's model and could cause you to blow up. I'm not sure how the new version handles FAR I heard it's less risky but still you should be careful! :P

Okay good to know. I'll be careful (and maybe end up tweaking some configs or something...).

Thanks again.
