How do I fix solar panels using the test file?

Recommended Posts

My solar panels keep breaking off of my stationary builds when I load them. Is there a way I can restore them using the text file? I have used it to fix craft "stuck" below the terrain before by altering altitude values, so I have a passing familiarity.

Thanks, Brax

I did that once on twice, it's rather easy.

Make a quicksave, then open your quicksave file, go down to the craft you want to change, find the solar panels and they should have a "Status =" value. If they're broken well it's gonna say... "BROKEN" You just want to change that to "EXTENDED". Then go back in your game, load your quicksave and the panels should be fine :)

Are you using mod or stock panels? The stock one, I believe the persistence file has a setting code for the solar panels for stock. I would need to break some off to test, which unfortunately don't have time for right now, but there should be something in the persistent controling it. Check "stateString = " in the part information under the MODULE header. Normally they are EXTENDED or RETRACTED. Try setting it to RETRACTED if the stock deployed ones are breaking on load up. This is assuming that the broken is a state.

There, he's right, the value you'll be looking for is "stateString". And it will indeed be set to "BROKEN" if your solar panels are broken, you just have to change it and you should be fine :P
