Increasing the strength of default struts

Recommended Posts

I am aware that in one of the mods available (NovaPunch if I am not mistaken), there exists a new strut, black in color, that is about 4-10 times stronger than the regular strut. This is the only part I want, so I realized that, instead of extracting it from NovaPunch, I can just edit the default one to "inherit" the characteristics of that black strut.

The reason behind is, I really don't want to spend a lot of time "strutifying" my designs over and over again, just for stability--I want just a few struts placed and that should be good to go.

Can anyone point me to the relevant files I need to look into, to change the strength of the regular (gray colored) struts? Thank you.

I wish they'd fix struts. It's absolutely ridiculous that I have to use 500+ struts. For such a brilliant company, they really screwed this up.

If you are using 500+ struts then you are building something that fits into one of these two options.

1) Badly designed: please ask for help in the spacecraft exchange on how to strut or design your crafts better, and as such you should not be complaining.

2) Over sized: So large and complex that it needs struts, and as such you should not be complaining.

Their are smaller and essayer ways of doing things, here is an older thread showing many minimalist designs.

If you are trying to put something massive into orbit, make it modular like most space stations in this thread, this includes things like Grand tour ships.

Easier = Spending hours painstakingly connecting several large pieces while in orbit...? Which is deemed by many to be the most difficult task in the game. I once crafted an orbital fueling station and those docking ports are not only fragile but caused the station to wobble like crazy even when I slightly altered its position. Load up the final scenario and simply turn that fueling station, for instance. Maybe when those docking ports are more stable then I'll use them more often. Until then, they're a headache waiting to happen.

I think it would probably be a better idea to duplicate and then edit the duplicated strut instead of editing the default. When updates happen, you won't have to go back and re-edit the part to get the struts strong again.

Is "maxLength" really the property? It sounds like something else.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
